Reviews, statistics and damn asthetic Lies

There is a weird thing about 15mm ww2. A vehicle being the correct shape is actually something of a rarity. Figures can vary hugely in height and physical size. Why this is so much of a surprise is that one scale up in wargames terms, everything is just about spot on for 1/72 and 1/76 th scale. this completely flummexes me.

Why I hear you ask? ......................because every 15mm model is at a scale which is 1/100 or maybe 1/96 occasionally and 1/104 oddly. they obviously should be the same shape just slightly larger or smaller in every direction and the HO/OO 72/76 seems to get this exactly right. Well it doesnt seem to work that way with 15mm. i recently saw a professional painter put up 2 vehicles he had completed for scrutiny and how his comparison showed how one was clearly better than the other. My interest was tweaked because I had 3 of those same vehicles.

Well here he is, the little semovente 75/18, sleek low to the ground on an underpowered chassis.

he is a little distinctive with his mansard roof turret shape and the "star trek vassells " exhausts. but they were extremely effective for the Italians (which isnt heard a lot for italian vehicles).

Now I have 3 battlefront models of these little beauties.

But compare to this picture.....

The top part was a side on view of both models and the poster asked for comment. he has battlefront on the left and CD on the right. the CD ones just looked wrong and also looked like they had been stood on in a buffalo stampede with a sag in the middle. But when you consider it against the side on drawing, you see that each model is actually vastly distorted, but the battlefront has extreme changes in thinks like the height and position of the turret casement and the size and location of the bogie wheels. It is in fact hard to beleive they are the same vehicle. What I found even stranger is the battlefront model does look better in terms of appearance even thought it is clearly the wrong shape. However, my 3 were completed tonite and I hope to get a picture of them soon.
